Class Trip to Trentham Gardens: The Barefoot Walk!!

Date: 11th Jul 2016 @ 7:50pm

Today was our class visit to Trentham Gardens. When we all woke up it was very rainy so we definately needed our wellies and raincoats! We were very excited when we got to school all dressed up in our rain gear. Once we had been to the toilet and registered, we lined up and headed off to the coach. On the coach we were all chattering away about what we could see, where we lived and what we thought the garden's were going to be like.

Once we had arrived and Mrs Yarwood had checked in we headed straight to our dinner to room to leave our bags (because we all thought they were sooooo heavy!) and then made our way to the train station. We loved how small it was, but were surprised that it could pull us all. On the train we got to travel all the way along the lakeside. We saw ducks, swans and even boats. When we got to the end of the track, the train haad to turn around on a special turntable and then pull us the other way (we had to turn around on the carriages too so that we weren't travelling backwards which could make us feel sick!

Whilst travelling around we saw lots of magical fairies hiding in and around the garden. We got very good at spotting them!

After we had been on the train it began to rain again, but we didn't mind because we were going to have our lunch. On the way to the dinner room, we walked through the beautiful Italian gardens. Lots of us thought how pretty the flowers were, some of us spotted bees and other pollinators, and others really liked watching the water fountains but it made us thirsty.

Once we had eaten our lunch, it was time for the big barefoot walk! Some of us were a little nervous about taking our shoes off and walking on the different textures, but most of us gave it a good go and if weren't keen, we could simply walk on the grass. Mrs Yarwood was very impressed with how we all had a go, even if we were unsure. The children were all impressed that the adults took their wellies off too!

There were lots of strange surfaces for us to walk through from mud to puddles, from bark to sand and even squidgey moss! There were lots of sound effects as we walked along the trail. All of us had fun- even when it rained again and expecially when Mrs Yarwood an Mrs Hancock (Mrs Yarwood's mummy) tried to soak us in the splashing area! Ergh!!!!

After the walk we had to wash our feet under special taps to rinse off all of the dirt (well most of it) and we used our towels to dry our feet (sorry if they got a litle dirty but we  got clean all by ourselves). Mrs Yarwood was incredibly impressed with how most of us sorted ourselves out and managed to put our own socks and wellies back on.

We were quite sad when it was time to leave, but also glad in a way because we were so tired. Some of us even fell asleep on the coach ride home- it was much quieter on the way home than when we were going.

What a fantastic day! We are all proud of ourselves for being absolutely amazing pupils at Scholar Green!
