Year 2

Year 2 Working From Home Resources

New resources have beeen added for this week so make sure you check them out.  There are also new challenges on Purple Mash and Sumdog so don't forget to have a look at those as well.

It is very important that all children are still reading regularly at home and doing their quizzes. You can call into school to change your child's book whenever you need to.

Children in YR2 should be looking at going on Times Table Rock Stars at least 3x per week, it is really important to practise and consolidate their timestable knowledge.

Please do use the resources but also use the time to spend  time doing things together with your child - that is what they need most at the moment - to feel safe and to feel loved.

I love seeing what the class have been getting up to so continue to email photos of their work and I will reply as soon as I can.

Please feel free to email me if there is anything I can do to help or support you in these challenging times.

Take care, stay safe and keep smiling

Activities to support learning from home

Maths

In maths we have been working on tally charts, bar charts and pictograms so any work to support this would be great. We have also been looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and thinking about measuring accurately using a ruler upto 30cm.

It would be very beneficial if all children could contiune to practise thier times tables - 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x tables. Going on Times Tables Rock Stars regularly would help this.  www.ttrockstars.com/

English

In English we have been working on mkaing sure all our sentences are punctuated correctly including using capital letters for proper nouns ( names of people and places) We ahave also been having a focus on re reading our work to check it is coherant - does it make sense? have we used the correct tense? Are our spellings correct?

It would be great if children could contiune to practise their common exception words - a copy is in the files on the right of the page.

Our author is Dick King Smith so reading any of his stories would also be great.

We were about to begin some work on learning how to spell contraxctions such as - can't, won't, she'll, isn't, I'm, couldn't etc. Some worksheets are in the files on the right.

Science

In science we have been think about plants - I hope your sunflowers are growing well ... mine is looking great. A diary of how tall their sunflower is would be ideal as we could compre them wehnwe get back to school.

We were also thinking about the parts of a plant we could eat - roots, leaves and seeds, so any work on this would be ideal.

History and Geography

In history we were thinking about the famous polar explorers - Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton so any research on these two individuals would be amazing.

Linking to this was our geography work on the hot and cold areas on the world so the north and sout pole and countries near the equator.
