School Council
What is a School Council?
School council is a group of students who are chosen to represent their classmates and help improve the school. They work with teachers and staff to share students’ ideas, organise events, and make the school a better place for everyone. Being part of the school council helps students develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Every child has a voice.
Each year, children who wish to become members of the School Council campaign for votes, and elections are held in every classroom to choose the representatives.
What does it entail?
The School Council meets regularly, with a teacher present, to discuss ideas and find solutions to issues within the school community. Topics may include school lunches, behaviour, fundraising projects, and ways to improve school life. School Council members take responsibility for putting their ideas into action, such as organising charity events and workshops, meeting with governors and members of the wider community, and representing the views and opinions of pupils across the school.
What makes a good School Councillor?
A good School Council is one that represents the views of the children and gets things done. These are some of the things that make our School Council effective:-
Regular meetings
Good communication between Representatives and their class.
Smaller groups (sub-committees) working on specific events or issues.
Examples of what we have done:
Improved playground and field equipment
Raising Money for a variety of charities such as Save the Children, Children in Need and Sport Relief
Cake Sales
Golden Time Survey
Posters for recycling
Share pupils’ ideas and concerns with teachers and school leaders
The School Councillors are supported by Miss Hancock.
