Meet the Governing Body of Scholar Green Primary School

Welcome to the Governors section of our website. Here you can learn more about the people who help shape the strategic direction of our school, support the leadership team, and ensure we provide the best possible education for every child. Our governors play a vital role in school improvement, accountability, and community engagement.

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

On behalf of the Governing Body, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all visitors of Scholar Green Primary School. As Chair of Governors, I am proud to lead a committed and experienced team that works in close partnership with the Headteacher and staff to ensure the highest standards of education and care for every child.

Our role is to provide strategic oversight, ensure accountability, and support the school in delivering its vision and values. We are dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment where all pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our work. We are proud to serve such a vibrant and supportive school community.

The Role of the Governors

At Scholar Green Primary School, our Governing Body plays a vital role in ensuring that every child receives the highest quality education in an inclusive and supportive environment where every child is valued and protected. We are a diverse team of volunteers who bring a wide range of skills and experiences to support and challenge the school’s leadership. Our work is rooted in the principles of strategic oversightaccountability, and continuous improvement.

We operate as a critical friend to the Headteacher and senior leaders—offering both support and constructive challenge to help the school achieve its vision and priorities.

Our work as governors supports the school’s effectiveness across all areas of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF) (which can be found here)., which underpins how schools are evaluated for quality and impact. These areas include (but is not limited to):

  • Leadership & Management (including Governance and Strategic oversight)
  • Quality of Education (Curriculum Intent, Implementation, and Impact)
  • Behaviour and Attitudes
  • Personal Development (Including Well-being and Character Education)
  • Inclusion and SEND
  • Safeguarding (evaluated as a standalone judgement)
  • Attendance and Punctuality
  • Early Years Provision
  • Staff Development and Workload
  • Community and Parental Engagement

We ensure that strategic decisions reflect the unique context of our school and community, and that our narrative of improvement is clearly evidenced and understood. Our full vision and strategic priorities are outlined in the Governor Planner, available at the bottom of this page.

How We Work

  • The Full Governing Body meets at least six times per year, with additional committee and working group meetings as needed.
  • We have link governors for key areas such as Safeguarding, Curriculum, SEND, and Finance, who visit the school regularly and report back to the board.
  • We attend training and development sessions to stay up to date with national education policy and governance best practice.
  • We visit the school to meet with staff and pupils, observe learning, and understand how strategic decisions impact day-to-day life.
  • Governors regularly undertake training in safeguarding, curriculum, SEND and governance to ensure we remain effective and informed.
  • All governors at Scholar Green Primary School adhere to a Code of Conduct (available upon request from the school office) and uphold the principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness and leadership

A full overview of our Link Governor responsibilities, including curriculum subject areas, can be found in our Governor Planner, linked at the bottom of this page.

Our Impact

Recent examples of our work include:

  • Overseeing the school’s budget planning and ensuring value for money
  • Monitoring curriculum development and pupil progress in core subjects
  • Strengthening safeguarding procedures and staff training
  • Championing pupil voice and well-being through regular engagement with school leaders

These examples demonstrate our commitment to continuous improvement and our role in holding the school to account for the quality of education and pupil outcomes. We ensure that all governance activity is evidence-informed and contributes meaningfully to the school’s self-evaluation and improvement planning. We value strong community links and ensure that the school’s work reflects and supports the needs of our families and local area.
