A Visit from the Alsager Fire Fighters
Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
Class: Miss Lewis - Reception (EYFS) Year: 2015 - 2016
We were so excited to find out that the fire fighters were coming to visit us! We wanted to know what their uniform looked like, what they had to do for their jobs and what a fire engine was like? Fireman Mark, Gaz and Dave came into our classroom and one of them had on the wuipmetn and clothes they use when they are fighting fires. They showed us how the breathing apparatus worked and why they needed special types of clothes.
We learnt that if our clothes accidentally caught on fire we needed to 'STOP, DROP and ROLL!' We had a chance to practice this. We also talked about what we needed to do in an emergency- call 999! and, of you are in a smokey room, we need to drop to our knees and crawl as low as we can to find the door.
Afterwards, we went outside to see the fire engine- we even had chance to sit in it! It was so exciting. We had a chance to look at the special equipment and even hold the hose and squirt water! When it was time for them to go back to the station they climbed into the fire engine and sounding the alarm. The blue lights flashed and it made a very loud! As they drove off they sounded the horn and waved to us out of the window.
Thank you to the fire crew for their time and making our morning really exciting!
