English
At Scholar Green, we believe that English is at the heart of learning and provides children with the essential skills they need to communicate confidently and succeed across the curriculum. Our English curriculum is designed to inspire a love of reading, writing and spoken language through engaging, creative and purposeful learning opportunities. We place a strong emphasis on promoting the spoken word, encouraging pupils to develop confidence in expressing their ideas, performing, debating and speaking clearly in a range of contexts. In Early Years and Key Stage 1, reading is taught systematically using Read Write Inc, ensuring children build strong foundations in phonics, fluency and comprehension from the very start of their learning journey. Through high-quality texts, rich vocabulary experiences and meaningful writing opportunities, children are supported to become enthusiastic readers and skilled writers who can write for a variety of purposes and audiences. Alongside this, we maintain high academic expectations and are proud that our pupils consistently perform well in statutory assessments. At Scholar Green, we aim to develop articulate, imaginative and resilient learners who are equipped with the literacy skills needed for both school life and the wider world.
