Geography

At Scholar Green, our Geography curriculum is designed to spark curiosity about the world and help children develop a deep understanding of places, people and environments both locally and globally. We encourage pupils to ask questions, explore geographical concepts and make meaningful connections between human and physical processes that shape our world. Fieldwork is an essential part of our geography curriculum, providing children with valuable hands-on experiences to observe, investigate and record the world around them in real-life contexts. We are proud to have achieved the Geography Quality Mark Gold accreditation, which recognises the exceptional quality of our geography provision. This award reflects our commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, ensuring pupils develop strong geographical knowledge, enquiry skills and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. At Scholar Green, we aim to nurture confident geographers who are inspired to explore, understand and care for the world in which they live.

Geography Association: strengths

Many thanks for your well organised and presented submission. You have brought us up to date on your story since your previous Silver award. We appreciated the addition of the profile of the subject leader, showing the various inspirations and professional development that they have connected with. You are clearly drawing on the previous PGQM experience to form a sound basis for further developments, focussing on progression. You reference key concepts and use context slips well throughout. The progression models are clearly outlined.

The canals running close by offer a nice context for teaching a range of geographical (and historical) themes.

Pupil voice was being collected and acted on. Pupils’ eyes are being opened through the Barcelona Pen Pals scheme, and sustainability modelled through the second-hand Christmas clothing event. A thorough range of evidence has been provided.
