Mathematics
Vision Statement
At Scholar Green we create purposeful and engaging learning experiences that use practical resources to help develop critical thinking. We aim to nurture fluent, confident learners who are able to problem-solve, and who have the skills needed for real-life. We empower children to see mathematics as meaningful, relevant, and connected to the world around them.
Our Aims and Values
At Scholar Green, we believe that mathematics should be practical, purposeful and challenging for every child. Our maths curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence and develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts through engaging and hands-on learning experiences. We encourage children to explore, reason and problem-solve, helping them to see maths as an essential skill that is relevant to everyday life. Through practical resources, collaborative activities and real-life contexts, pupils are supported to develop fluency, resilience and a positive attitude towards mathematics. We provide opportunities for children to think critically, explain their reasoning and challenge themselves, ensuring that all learners are able to make excellent progress and achieve their full potential. At Scholar Green, we aim to nurture confident mathematicians who enjoy learning, embrace challenge and are equipped with the skills they need for the future.
Maths Curriculum
At Scholar Green Primary School, we aim to help children make sense of the world by developing their calculation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills through a mastery-based mathematics curriculum. We follow the White Rose approach, ensuring children build fluency in calculation before applying their understanding through reasoning and problem-solving in a variety of contexts. Mathematics learning begins in Nursery and Reception, where children develop early number concepts through practical activities, continuous provision, and the use of concrete resources. We also access the Fluency Bee section of White Rose which provides structured, regular practice of number facts and develops number sense.
