Scholar Green History Curriculum

At Scholar Green, our history curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity about the past and help children develop a strong sense of chronology, identity and understanding of the world they live in today. Through carefully sequenced chronological topics and engaging learning experiences, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, think critically and explore how events from the past have shaped modern society. We bring history to life through immersive lessons, hands-on activities and educational visits that deepen pupils’ understanding of historical events and periods, helping them to build secure knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for the subject. We aim to nurture inquisitive historians who can make meaningful connections between the past, present and future.

We are also delighted that the Historical Association has awarded Scholar Green a Gold Standard rating for the delivery of history across the school, reflecting the consistently high quality of teaching and learning, strong subject knowledge and carefully planned, engaging approaches used by staff.

Extra-Curricular opportunity within History

We provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities within our history curriculum to enhance pupils’ learning and engagement. Each year group has access to at least one history enrichment experience annually, which may include educational visits, visiting speakers, themed days or practical, hands-on activities linked to classroom learning. These carefully planned opportunities help pupils develop a deeper understanding of historical people, events and concepts through memorable, real-world experiences. Enrichment is embedded within the curriculum to broaden pupils’ perspectives, strengthen engagement and support a more lasting understanding of history.
