Sustainability

Sustainability Leader: Hayley Hancock

At Scholar Green, we are committed to promoting sustainability and helping children develop an understanding of the importance of caring for the environment and the world around them. We encourage pupils to take responsibility for making positive choices and actively involve them in initiatives that support a more sustainable future. As part of this commitment, we recycle and reuse school uniform, helping to reduce waste while supporting our families and community. We have also introduced food waste bins across the school to encourage responsible disposal and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Alongside these initiatives, we continue to adopt and promote other sustainable practices throughout school life, helping children to understand the importance of environmental responsibility from an early age. Through education and practical action, we aim to inspire pupils to become thoughtful, responsible citizens who recognise the impact they can have on the world around them.

Scholar Green - Green Team

Sustainability has become an increasingly important part of our school, with a higher profile across many areas of school life. The Green Team plays a key role in leading environmental initiatives, encouraging students to take responsibility for protecting the planet and promoting eco-friendly habits throughout the school community. Through campaigns, projects, and awareness activities, the Green Team helps inspire positive change and strengthens our commitment to a more sustainable future.

Sustainability in our school is about creating a healthier, cleaner, and more responsible environment for everyone. By reducing waste, saving energy, recycling, and caring for our surroundings, we can make a positive impact on both our school community and the planet. Working together, students and teachers can build habits that protect natural resources and ensure a better future for the next generation.

Let's Go Zero is a national campaign that supports schools and colleges in reducing their carbon emissions and becoming more environmentally sustainable. The initiative encourages educational institutions to work towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by providing resources, guidance, and opportunities to collaborate with experts and other schools. Through activities such as energy-saving projects, waste reduction, sustainable travel, and climate education, Let's Go Zero helps students and staff take meaningful action against climate change. The campaign aims to create a greener future while inspiring young people to become responsible environmental leaders.

The Big Clothes Movement is a campaign that encourages people to think more carefully about the clothes they buy, wear, and throw away. It promotes sustainable fashion by raising awareness of the environmental impact of fast fashion and encouraging practices such as reusing, repairing, swapping, and donating clothing. By helping people make more eco-friendly choices, the movement aims to reduce textile waste, conserve resources, and support a more sustainable future. It also inspires communities to work together to create positive change and develop more responsible shopping habits.
