Enrichment
At Scholar Green Primary and Nursery School, we believe that education extends beyond the statutory curriculum. Every child should have the opportunity to develop their interests, talents, confidence, character, independence and understanding of the wider world through a rich programme of experiences.
Our enrichment offer complements and extends our ambitious curriculum. It provides pupils with opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, experience new and unfamiliar activities, develop relationships, take on responsibility, discover interests and talents, and build the knowledge and skills they need to flourish as confident, resilient and responsible young people.
Our approach reflects our school vision of developing the heart and mind of every child. Enrichment is therefore not regarded as an optional add-on, but as an important part of pupils' personal development and their experience of primary education.
Our curriculum is designed to enable pupils to flourish academically, socially and personally, with creativity, independence, curiosity and emotional wellbeing developed through rich first-hand experiences, outdoor learning, educational visits, leadership opportunities and an extensive programme of enrichment.
The quality of our curriculum and enrichment provision is recognised externally through subject-specific quality marks, including History, Geography, Science and Physical Education. These external recognitions provide additional evidence of our commitment to high-quality curriculum provision, subject development and continuous improvement.
Our enrichment provision is aligned with the Department for Education's Enrichment Benchmarks. The framework provides eight benchmarks against which schools can evaluate the quality, breadth, accessibility and impact of their enrichment offer.
At Scholar Green, we use these benchmarks to celebrate the strengths of our existing provision, identify pupils who may be missing out, and continually develop our offer.
